Your First Motorcycle: 4 Quick Buyer Tips

Choosing your first Motorbike is a big deal!

With so many LAMS approved motorcycles to choose from, it can be tricky business narrowing down the best bike for your first motorcycle purchase. We've listed four quick tips to assist in selecting the right bike for you and your needs.

1. Research the style of bike

Narrowing down the style of motorcycle you desire will make the process of purchasing a bike much easier - are you after a sportsbike, naked, sport-heritage, adventure, or even a scooter? Do some research, and also refer to tip number four (testing a range of motorcycles).

2. Know your budget

The next step is familiarising yourself with your budget - will you be paying up front or seeking finance? If so, how much can you afford each week? This will help determine the price range of motorcycles you can choose from and narrow down the process even further. Do you qualify for finance? Apply for Yamaha Motor Finance's online pre-approval to find out.

3. Know your abilities

Do you have years of experience riding motorcycles in different disciplines or is riding completely new to you? There are a host of LAMS approved bikes that range from lower capacity engines, all the way through to 650cc-plus twin-cylinders. If you're new, we advise gaining experience on a more manageable and rideable lower capacity motorcycle, rather than diving straight into the deep end with a big-bore machine.

4. Test a range of motorcycles

After you've assessed the above options, create a shortlist of bikes to test ride, and go ride them! Don't be afraid to test something outside of your desired style of bike, it's not only good for comparison, but you could also surprise yourself with an alternative model. If you have queries, feel free to ask the sales person - if they're anything like Cully's very own Tony and Ben, then they'll be more than happy to assist you.
